Our Craft Beers

We pride ourselves on the quality of our Craft Beers

All Brehon Brewhouse beer is brewed on site at a state of the art micro-brewing facility on our farm.

Brehon Blonde

A Welcome To Every Face
Oh, to be an Irish clansman. From the sixth century, Brehon law decreed that every local kingdom have a brewery, and every brewer have “a never-dry cauldron, a dwelling on a public road and a welcome to every face”.

They were to be open 24 hours a day, offering food, drink and song. At Brehon Brewhouse we’ll not turn you away. Come visit… (Maybe phone first).

Brehon Blonde

This Blonde Ale is one of our first, and most signature beers. This no-nonsense Golden Ale is always a hit, with a delicious malty honey-oat body, citrusy hops and a crisp, lightly bitter spicy finish. It’s a recipe that has, and will continue to, stand the test of time.

Fabulous with white fish, shellfish, BBQ chicken or food from the Mediterranean, but equally as enjoyable on its own.

Alcohol: 4.30%
Ingredients: Water, Malted Barley, Hops, Yeast
Allergens: Malted Barley

Killanny Red

Sometimes the Apple does Fall Far from the Tree
The McMahons have lived on our farm for 10 generations (but who’s counting?) We’ve had our ups and downs throughout the years, but we always loved a good pint — except for my mother and father who never touched a drop. We keep family close and raise a glass every day to those that came before,
surrounded by photographs of generations of McMahons.

Killanny Red

Described by many as “The perfect example of an Irish Red”, Killanny Red is named after the townland that surrounds our farm and brewery. The deep, russet ruby hue of this beer is complimented by it’s biscuity aromatic caramel malt, nutty flavours of toasted hazelnut, and crisp tones of hops and berries.

This beer is great on its own and just perfect with BBQ red meats, lamb, stew, roast beef, black pudding or mature cheddar.

Alcohol: 4.50%
Ingredients: Water, Malted Barley, Hops, Yeast
Allergens: Malted Barley

Ulster Black Oatmeal Stout

Beware The McMahons
It wasn’t the Vikings you had to fear, it was the McMahons. Or at least that’s how they tell it in this part of Ulster. We were the notorious ruling clan for centuries, raiding the Pale for whiskey and beer. These days, we brew our own….. once we’ve finished milking the cows. Always ready for a quiet pint.

Ulster Black Oatmeal Stout

Our signature stout, Ulster Black has an unmistakable toasted malt aroma, that continues into flavours of dark chocolate, coffee and light detailing of bitter hops. Full bodied and full of flavour, this cozy stout always hits the spot.

Ideal with game or strong red meat, smoked meats and hearty stews. Also great with desserts such as chocolate, caramel or dark fruits.

Stony Grey

The Reluctant Farmer
Patrick Kavanagh may have ended up a renowned poet, but he started life as a reluctant farmer. Torn between the scenery he loved and the hard work of farm life, it’s hard not to be inspired by his desire to chase after his true calling.

He’s a national treasure now, but to us he’ll always be the grumpy gasán who lived next door to Granny McGahon. ‘Oh Stony grey soil of Monaghan, you burgled my bank of youth’, Patrick Kavanagh.

Stony Grey

Patrick Kavanagh wrote “The Stony Grey Soil of Monaghan” in honor of the place that shaped him, and taught him the lessons of life, harsh as they may be. The same Stony Grey Soil inspired us to create this fragrant, yet herbal and woody IPA. This delicious, cloudy orange delight hits so many notes, like tropical fruit, pine cedar, and sweet hops, with a slight bitter finish and a nice foamy white head.

Great on its own but also with spicy foods like Indian or Mexican. A perfect accompaniment to Lemon curd cake.

Alcohol: 6%
Ingredients: Water, Malted Barley, Hops, Yeast
Allergens: Malted Barley
